Nevada Afterschool Network (NAN) is part of the 39 states funded by the C.S. Mott Foundation for Statewide Afterschool Networks. NAN is a vehicle for bringing together policymakers, educators, childcare providers, youth development workers, program developers, advocates, parents and others interested in improving outcomes for children and youth through school-linked out-of-school time programs. NAN's focus is on actively coordinating, engaging and influencing key decision makers to support school-linked afterschool/out-of-school-time (OST) programs that support the success of children and young people in all of Nevada's 17 counties.

In addition, the network provides a means to encourage local and state policymakers to invest additional resources wisely to expand quality afterschool opportunities and address particular needs to improve quality and sustainability.

The Nevada Afterschool Network collaborations across the state includes new ways of working, thinking and influencing afterschool policy and practices in the state and across the country. NAN's governance structure includes a broad array of organizations that can come to the table and speak openly about common issues, underlying beliefs, as well as differences. It is extremely crucial that Nevada's OST field is speaking the same language to enhance the field professionally.

The network is developing a shared vision and influencing others to believe in the power of out-of-school time programs, especially for children in poverty. NAN joins Statewide Afterschool Networks across the nation who are also imagining systems where afterschool programs are supported and sustained in significant ways.

At the national level, the combination of statewide efforts is evolving into a national network that is increasingly well positioned to influence national priorities to better serve children and families.
